Port Hadlock-Irondale, WA 98339

Session #1 - Straw Clay Insulation

April 16th, Saturday 10am-5pm

Buildings in Europe using these techniques have lasted hundreds of years!

Session #2 - Base Layer Interior Plaster

April 30th, Saturday 10am - 5pm

Here we will discuss and practice the nitty gritty of marrying modern building with earthen building. How do you plaster over an area where you see wood, straw-clay, metal, window sills, power outlets, and so on? Best practices for types of lath and other bridging techniques will be explored, and a base layer of lime plaster applied. We will discuss both Earthen and Lime plasters and the benefits of each and why we chose lime in this case.

Session #3 - Final “Water Resistant” Plaster

May 7th, Saturday 10am - 5pm

In areas such as a shower where humidity levels fluctuate greatly and

walls are frequently hit directly with water, how do you protect your building? Tadalakt is an old technique of soaping lime during the curing process to make a waterproof material. We will explore different degrees of soaping and well as finish plaster techniques and tools needed for a super smooth finish.
